Maori Troilus and Cressida
The performing arts group Ngakau Toa staged a production of Shakespeares Troilus and Cressida. The group played to appreciative sold out crowds in New Zealand and to rave reviews at the Globe Theatre in London during the globe to globe international festival in April 2012. Shona Tawhiao designed the costumes for this brave and challenging enterprise. The production received glowing praise from many sources and Theatre Review New Zealand had this to say of the costumes:
The costumes (Shona Tawhiao) are vivid and dramatic with subtle touches that hint at Greek and Trojan dress and the body tattoos also help to make it clear who is on what side.
Following are a few photographs featuring the actors performing in Shonas designs.
